FAQ: I am a tenant at will and want to terminate my lease. What notice do I have to give my landlord?

I am a tenant at will and I wish to terminate my lease. What notice do I have to give my landlord?

As a tenant-at-will you are required to give your landlord a thirty (30) day notice of your intention to terminate the rental agreement. It is best to for the tenant to provide this notice in writing. If a tenant-at-will gives notice to the landlord on July 15th of his intention to vacate the rental property on August 1st the lease will not terminate until August 15th. The tenant is still responsible for the full August rent which came due before the lease terminated.
