Georgia Senior Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program- Senior SNAP

SNAP Households With Senior or Disabled Members

There are a few special SNAP rules for households that contain a disabled member or a senior, age 60 or older.

What is the Georgia Senior SNAP Application Process?

It is a project to simplify the application process for seniors facing barriers to participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly the Food Stamp Program, due to complexities of the application process and challenges associated with age such as transportation, mobility, and disability.

How do I apply for Senior SNAP?

  • You don’t have to go to a DFCS office to apply.
  • You can call (404) 370-6236 and an application will be mailed to you.
  • You don’t have to have a face-to-face interview.
  • Once you are approved, your SNAP Benefits will go into a special account and we will send you an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card to use every month for buying groceries.  Your EBT card works just like a bank debit card at the grocery store.

Who qualifies?

You may receive SNAP assistance if:

  • All members of your household are 60 years of age or older and purchase and prepare their food together.
  • The members of your household are not working.
  • Your household is under the income limits to be eligible for SNAP participation.
